The X-X is a lapel-style electret condenser microphone that uses a 6mm omnidirectional capsule. Its frequency response is essentially flat from 20Hz to 20kHz. Due to the small size of the capsule, the X-X has an accurate and lifelike sound. Its small capsule case makes it ideal for mounting to an instrument, placing on a flat surface as a boundary mic, or using as a lapel mic.
The X-X is available in two versions: the standard version is intended for studio use with acoustic instruments, and also with low-voltage power supplies. The high-output version offers lower output impedance for live and location recording, as well as increased SPL handling for louder sources. (All X-Xs produced in 2008 were the standard version)
Power Supply and Interconnection
The X-X is designed to work with low voltage and low current power supplies as well as standard phantom power. The X-X requires a phantom power supply of +9V to +48V, and can also use plug-in power supplied by portable recorders or Soundblaster®-compatible PC soundcards. The high-output version requires +12V to +48V phantom power.
