The X-Q is an
electret condenser microphone that uses a 6mm omnidirectional capsule.
Its frequency response is essentially flat from 20Hz to 20kHz, with a slight rise in response above 10kHz.
Due
to the small size of the capsule, the X-Q has an accurate
and lifelike sound that excels at concert and ensemble recording, use as a room
mic, on choir and organ; as well as applications such as string and wind
instruments, piano, and acoustic guitar.
The
X-Q is excellent for stereo recording. For an additional charge, pairs of X-Qs are
matched to within 0.3dB A-weighted sensitivity, and very close
frequency response as well.
Power Supply and Interconnection
The X-Q is
available in two versions: the standard version is intended for studio
use with acoustic instruments, and also with low-voltage power
supplies. The high-output version offers lower output impedance for live
and location recording, as well as increased SPL handling for louder
sources. (All X-Qs produced in 2008 were the standard version)
The X-Q is designed to work with low voltage and low current power supplies as well as standard phantom power. The X-Q requires a phantom power supply of +9V to +48V, and can also use
plug-in power supplied by portable recorders or Soundblaster®-compatible PC soundcards (with the appropriate adaptor cable as required). The high-output version requires +12V to +48V phantom power.
Interconnection for the X-Q is as follows:
Phantom power (via XLR): Standard XLR-XLR cable. (cable not available from Naiant)
Plug-in power (stereo): Single TRS to dual XLR; tip to left pin 2, ring to right pin 2, sleeve to pins 1. No connection to pin 3. (adaptor cable available from Naiant)
PC mic input (Soundblaster®-compatible): TRS to XLR; sleeve to pin 1, ring to pin 3, tip to pin 2. (adaptor cable available from Naiant)
