MSH-3 drum microphone
MSH-3

Using the MSH-3

The MSH-3 was discontinued in December 2007.

The MSH-3 is an electret condenser microphone that uses a 6mm cardioid capsule. Its frequency response is tailored for kick drums, snare drum, and tom-toms, with a high-end rolloff to minimize bleed from cymbals. The MSH-3 has a proximity effect that will enhance low-frequency response when placed very close to the source.  The MSH-3 is built into a right-angle connector to allow unobtrusive placement on drums that keeps the microphone and clip from interfering with the drummer's stickwork.

The MSH-3 can handle the extreme sound pressure levels required to close-mic drums without clipping. Use of a windscreen is recommended if the MSH-3 is placed in the proximity of the kick drum front side hole.  The MSH-3 contains an internal pad to reduce sensitivity to help prevent clipping of microphone preamplifiers.

The MSH-3 requires a phantom power supply of +12V to +48V with at least 3mA current per microphone available. +48V is required for maximum SPL handling.
