Using the X-M

The X-M was discontinued in March 2011.

The X-M is an electret condenser microphone that uses a 6mm omnidirectional capsule.  Due to the small size of the capsule, the X-M has an accurate sound that excels at applications such as amplified concert recording and drum overheads.

The X-M is a pressure microphone with a nearly flat frequency response on-axis.  The X-M has a rising high-frequency response above 10kHz and a flat high-frequency response off-axis.  The 90 degree off-axis response of the X-M is approximately 4dB less than the on-axis response at 20kHz.  The X-M exhibits practically no off-axis rolloff below 10kHz.

The X-M is excellent for stereo recording. Pairs of X-Ms are matched to within 0.3dB A-weighted sensitivity and very close frequency response as well.  The X-M is also designed for use as a measurement microphone.  Individually purchased X-M microphones are supplied with a calibration in 1/3 octave intervals from 20Hz to 20kHz.

The X-M is designed to work with low voltage and low current power supplies as well as standard phantom power. The X-M requires a phantom power supply of +9V to +48V.
